Welcome dog Lovers!

Wellington Lake is about to become your dog’s favorite place! We are very dog friendly and allow dogs to play, hike, frolic, explore and relax.

At Wellington Lake, we realize that many of our visitors love to bring their dogs. We love and welcome well-behaved dogs.  This page is intended to clarify our policies related to bringing your dog to the campground. We hope that you and your canine companion have a great time at Wellington Lake whether you are paddleboarding, swimming, hiking, or camping!

Horses and other pets are not allowed at Wellington Lake property.

All dogs have to be on a leash 8‘ or shorter at all times. Leashed dogs are allowed on all of our trails and all around the campground! Please do not leave dogs unattended, including in the campgrounds.  Please do not venture onto others' campsites with your dog.  Tie-outs up to 15' are allowed in campsites, provided human attendants are present.

Please clean up after your dogs - poo bags are available at the visitor center.

Rules Concerning Dogs

2.    All dog waste must be bagged and disposed of in a dumpster or trash can.

Some of the reasoning for these regulations follows:

Leashing your dog keeps the dog near you so you can keep track of the waste (and pick it up). It also prevents the dog from chasing wildlife that many people come to Wellington to see. While your dog may be very well behaved, others' dogs may not be.  Having your dog leashed will allow you more control if an altercation with another dog occurs.  Additionally, many children have a fear of dogs and an unleased dog (even the sweetest dog) can approach a fearful child in a way that can traumatic.

Removal of dog waste is essential for health reasons, both human and canine. Dog parks can become the source of outbreaks of parvo virus or other disease because dog waste builds up, and is present in and around a water source. Dog feces can also carry parasites such as worms; all feces carry the bacteria E. coli.

When it rains, run-off is carried into the lake, where visitors swim and play in the sand on the beach, and dogs and wildlife drink.

These are just a few things to keep in mind!  Thank you for complying with these rules.

We welcome your dogs, and we appreciate your cooperation!

Pet Safety

We love when your pets visit the lake but we ask that you keep these safety tips in mind to make sure your pet remains happy and healthy while at the lake!

During camping trips, dehydration is common in dogs- remember to pack extra fresh water for your pets. Collapsible dog bowls are a great option as they are easy to pack and carry with you especially if you plan on hiking or biking with your pup.

Fleas and ticks can be found at Wellington Lake. We recommend taking action by using flea/tick collars or a veterinarian approved dog bug spray.

While at the lake, your dog is likely to interact with other dogs. Please make sure your dog is up-to-date on vaccines, especially the rabies vaccine.

If you plan to take your dog out on a canoe or paddleboard, provide a life preserver for them as we often experience unpredictable high winds.
